DAN BRYCE

Dan Bryce

Dan Bryce is the Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Brigham Young University where he joined the faculty in 2018. He greatly enjoys teaching and working with students and previously held posts at Utah Valley University and Snow College.

Professionally, Professor Bryce has performed with some of the great orchestras in the United States including the Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops, the Seattle Symphony, the Utah Symphony, Utah’s Ballet West, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and the Albany Symphony. He’s toured with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Vermont Symphony Brass Quintet, the Utah Brass Quintet and regularly with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square as part of the Orchestra at Temple Square.

He’s also performed in concert with a distinguished list of performers, composers and conductors from Andrea Bocelli, and Gladys Knight, to Hans Zimmer and John Williams, to Kurt Masur and James Levine. He’s performed as a recording artist for film, commercial, and television that include movie trailers, programming for ESPN, and NBC, documentaries for PBS, and sound recording projects for internationally known artists like Bryn Terfel and Jenny Oaks Baker. He has a great passion for brass chamber music and has recently recorded an album with Brassworks the brass quintet in residence at Brigham Young University. He performs regularly with the Orchestra at Temple Square and has performed in concert, in recordings, and in weekly live televised broadcasts with them and the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square since 1999.

Professor Bryce received his Bachelor of Music degree from Brigham Young University, where he studied tuba under Steve Call. He earned a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School with tuba studies under Warren Deck (New York Philharmonic, ret), and David Fedderly (Baltimore Symphony ret). While living in Boston, he studied tuba under Mike Roylance (Boston Symphony, Principal Tuba). Other teachers and mentors include Gary Ofenloch of the Utah Symphony and Chris Olka of the Cincinnati Symphony.

When he’s not playing or teaching tuba and euphonium, Professor Bryce occupies himself with mountain biking, photography, and trying to remember how to speak Japanese. He is blessed with an amazing wife and five wonderful children.
