Thank you for attending our "Night of Heavy Hitters"
recital.
I accepted a position as Part-time faculty at California State University Fullerton (CSUF), a top notch Cal State music program and impressive facilities, not to mention friendly and supportive colleagues.
Busy, busy week at the 47th IHS LA! I performed Bruce Broughton's Hornworks, Alec Wilder's Nonet, and my own presentation of Richard Peaslee's The Devil's Herald.
I DO like french fries, especially the organ pipes in Walt Disney Concert Hall! Always fun performing in this hall.
Final Fantasy music in concert. A really neat concept for video game music. I was not aware the company is on it's 17th installment of the game. WOW!
Ahhh, the proverbial early morning Easter gig. Glad to have had a blowing contest with the organist with this crew. I composed a really hard fanfare for a warmup.
Performed the Tenor Tuba part to Holst's Planets with New West Symphony on euphonium. As you can see here, I wasn't really sure how to hold it at first!
The NAMM show is a big deal in Anaheim every year. Thanks to the Hornguys, I was able to go try the latest and greatest innovations in the music product world. Pictured here is me trying out a JBL Classic by B&S, and using the brand new Boston Brass mouthpiece. Lots of fun connecting with people in the industry, too!
Another great Tour with Andrea Bocelli. Crowd was more enthusiastic than ever! Many encores.
The Concordia University Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Jeff Held was kind enough to accompany me on the Gregson Tuba Concerto.
October is a great time for tubists to perform recitals, and remind the general public that the tuba in a solo setting can be quite beautiful. Some of the pieces I performed are on the videos page. Brian Kehlenbach's Three Scenes from Moby Dick, a double concerto for tuba and marimba, was a most memorable performance!
Release of the Hollywood Epic Brass CD, which was a Tribute to Hollywood studios icon Vince de Rosa, a project spearheaded by composer Kevin Kaska. Doug Tornquist and I are playing tuba on this 'Epic' CD.
